Fifteen songs that capture the contrast and consequence of machine-age urban wonders. Sounds from the City blends lavish electronic ambience with exploratory piano as an exercise in temporality and interaction. Homemade tape samples and vintage drum machines frame tracks like visible scaffolding as layers of synth harmonies and jazzy percussion envelop and consume, positioning themselves as emblems of progress. These compositions exemplify an overwhelming stimulus, the barrage of a million simultaneous impressions, a kaleidoscope of tattered wheatpaste histories and aural panoramas. Sounds from the City is the second in a series of works that explores the continuity and coherence of our lifelong influences.

A short story that’s equal parts anxious energy and and patient reflection, Words From The Woods explores an instrumental space inspired by 70s guitar trails, dark gospel swells, 8-bit textures and the vocabulary of early cinema. Galloping hip-hop beats and distorted synths are paired with gentle piano and glockenspiel phrases to form a summation of memories, a retelling of moments. The shimmer of light breaking through the trees on a still summer day, the melodic motion of insects in a quiet meadow, the persistent recollection of youth… this is the first in a series of works that explores the continuity and coherence of Bear & Walrus’ lifelong influences.

The first proper release from Church of the Undying Bloop, Run / Jump functions almost as a proof of concept recording… two fifteen minute tracks that move through a wide range of ideas and introduce us to a very unique new sound. Mostly improvisational, these recordings seamlessly blend mandolin, guitar, piano, slap bass and Commodore 64 drum beats into a strange sort of folk/chip/hip-hop hybrid. Run / Jump is available both as a physical cassette tape and as a free download. The cassette tape packaging was designed and printed by Church of the Undying Bloop, produced in a limited edition of seven. It includes an additional thirty minutes of ambient recordings not available elsewhere.

Bear & Walrus’ Image Poems is the spiritual follow-up to their debut album Lake Poems… again written and recorded in just 28 days, again inspired by writings about nature. The sound ranges from chiptune pop songs mixed with baroque orchestrations (“Epigram,” “A Year Passes”) to more free jazz inspired improv experiments (the incredible nine-minute “Two Impressions”).
